Mental health is critical in

today’s world

Over 46 million Americans struggle with mental health issues. These conditions encompass a range of disorders that affect a person’s thinking, feeling, behavior, or mood, including schizophrenia, PTSD, bipolar disorder, borderline personality disorder, ADHD, OCD, depression, anxiety, eating disorders, suicide, addiction, and others. They can profoundly impact daily life and interpersonal relationships.

Mental health issues are more common than many realize, partly because people often hesitate to discuss them.

Consider these statistics:

  • 1 in 5 U.S. adults experience mental illness each year.

  • 1 in 20 U.S. adults experience serious mental illness each year.

  • 1 in 6 U.S. youth aged 6-17 experience a mental health disorder each year.

  • 50% of all lifetime mental illnesses begin by age 14, and 75% by age 24.

Mental health conditions

Are not caused by a single event. Research indicates multiple contributing factors, including genetics, environment, and lifestyle. Stressful life situations or traumatic events can increase susceptibility, and biochemical processes and brain structure may also play a role.

It’s important to understand that having a mental health condition is not a sign of personal failure or that you or your family did something wrong. Mental illness is not anyone's fault. Recovery is possible for many individuals, often leading to fulfilling roles in social life, school, and work, especially when treatment begins early and you actively engage in your recovery process.
